Cebu is the city of smiles and
that is where FLOW conducted their Tropical Yoga and Dive Retreat in Club
Serena Resort, Moalboal, Cebu.
Upon arriving in the Mactan
airport, the FLOW crew met participants in the city and took a 2.5 van ride to
the resort. Here, the beach’s white sands and translucent waters greeted them-
a perfect venue for the weekend’s activities.
The retreat officially commenced
with an opening circle to meet and greet participants and crew. Goodie bags
were given away with items from Timex,
Roxy, FLOW, Juice Barista, Beyond Yoga, Moringana, Heyjow, and Belo Essentials Sun
Expert.
Owner of the resort’s dive shop
and yoga extraordinaire, Rica Hernandez-Gomez, led the group in an invigorating
Vinyasa yoga class under purple and blue cloth drapes. The Cebuana yogi
community is thriving and participants were excited to take classes with Rica.
The next morning, Rica taught a
brief yoga session before proceeding to the SUP (stand-up paddleboard)
introduction and race. The Timex visors
and Belo Essentials SunExpert sunblock protected them from the hot
summer sun. Winners received bottles of acai berry juice.
After lunch, the
PADI-accredited dive shop prepared the group for their first open water intro
dive. A short lecture was done in a classroom setting, followed by basic
instructions in the pool then the actual adventure in the ocean. The lush reefs
of Moalboal were addicting and participants enjoyed their first diving
experience. Some even spotted a couple of sea turtles.
FLOW conducted a green smoothie
and raw food workshop in the afternoon. Participants got to taste green
smoothies infused with Morningana capsules
and superfoods from The Healthy
Grocery. A hit was the lemon and ginger natural iced tea made from
steeping Morningana tea bags and adding cold water and mint leaves and FLOW’s
favorite Brekkie with soaked chia, fresh fruits, Granola Girl, Coco
Dolce chocolate chips and
sprinkles of the The Healthy Grocery superfoods (maca powder and acai powder).
During sunset, a spontaneous hula
hoop class was taught by one of the participants, Bernadette Hoopaholic Cebu. Energized by
the smoothies and superfoods, the participants danced and twirled, trying to
learn simple hoop basics and tricks.
A candle-lit yoga session was held
that evening under a canopy of stars. It was a serene experience to do the
asanas in the dark. The group then had dinner on pillows in the sand while
telling stories to cap the evening.
The Sunday morning yoga session
was taught by Flow participant, Aisa Locsin-Winternitz. After this, some
participants went snorkeling to see the giant school of sardine fish in the
Moalboal beach.
The retreat closed with awarding
best in yoga, SUP, diving, hula and smoothie-making. Premium prices were from Timex, Moringana, Cutieverse,
Lagu and Indigobaby were given away to winners.
It may not have been a
surf.yoga.samba retreat, but it was a Dive.Yoga.Hula retreat and many memories
were made before saying goodbye to beautiful Moalboal.
